Michael House a Steiner Waldorf School and Rowans Day Nursery

Michael House a Steiner Waldorf School and Rowans Day Nursery are situated in their own woodland adjoining the seven hundred acres of beautiful landscape that make up Shipley Country Park in Derbyshire.

The school provides a complete education from the ages of 3 ½ through to 16 years and is one of over a thousand organisations around the world which educates children according to the principles of Rudolf Steiner.

Childhood is the most important time of our lives. The experiences, feelings and education of our early years will greatly colour and shape the adults we go on to become and the part we play in the world.

Our primary task is to provide an environment and education that will allow our pupils to become creative, responsible and confident adults who are more than equipped to face the many challenges of life.

Kindergarten

Located in the early years centre at Michael House School, we have three Kindergarten groups catering for children aged from 3 ½ through to 6 years of age.

The Kindergarten stands within a beautiful garden surrounded by woodland immersing the children in the changing seasons, birdsong, flower and a few puddles from time to time!

The rhythm of daily life is simple and unhurried leaving space and time for imagination and initiative to unfold through play. We work to support the child’s own discoveries and opinions.

Rowans Day Nursery

Welcome to the Rowans Day Nursery. We are located in the early years centre at Michael House School and are able to provide care for twenty one children aged from 3 months to 6 years.

We are a registered with Ofsted, offering a high quality childcare service with a Steiner Waldorf educational influence. We aim to provide a calm, gentle environment where every child is treated with understanding andempathy.

The rhythm and routine of our days are carefully constructed in order to provide children with a sense of security and happiness.

Parent and Child Group

Our Parent and Child Groups are suitable for children up to 3 ½ years accompanied by their parents, grandparents or other carers.

We get together for a peaceful and relaxing time, in a warm friendly environment where we can share our experiences of parenting as a supportive group.

At the start of the session the children are given time to play and socialise, surrounded by natural materials and living things within the room and garden. Sometimes we bake together and the parents may also have time for various craft activities.

After sharing a simple meal, we culminate the session with a singing and story circle. This changes according to the seasons and may incorporate the festivals that we mark throughout the year.
